The short distance from the Minho River Valley, in Monção or Melgaço, to the Peneda-Gerês National Park is more than compensated by the unforgettable beauty of the landscape along the way. During the journey, a stop to admire the villages of the Mouro Valley is essential — it would be a mistake to miss it.

Entry into the National Park is through Lamas de Mouro, one of its official gates, where the majesty of nature inspires calm and serenity. Next, we head to the Aveleira and Santo António brandas, ancestral rustic constructions that transport us to a time when transhumance shaped life in these lands. The route itself is simply breathtaking.

On the return, we reach Castro Laboreiro, an old border village steeped in history and unique traditions. Here, a lunch break is recommended, either at a local restaurant or as a picnic in the open air.

After the meal, let your gaze wander over the imposing mountains sculpted by time and explore the most significant sites of the region, discovering local curiosities and traditions. Then continue toward the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Peneda, set in a setting that elevates the spirit. Finally, return to your starting point, absorbing the colors and tones of the landscape in the soft light of late afternoon.
