Where wine shapes the landscape and rural life
Monção belongs to the Monção and Melgaço sub-region, a distinctive area within the Vinho Verde Region, shaped by the singularity of its wine-growing landscapes and by the central role of vineyards in rural life.
This journey approaches the municipality of Monção through wine and agriculture, crossing rural parishes such as Tangil, Merufe and others, where vineyards, cultivated fields and seasonal rhythms continue to structure everyday life. Along the way, Vinho Verde wines — white and red — are understood in close relation to the territory that gives rise to them.
The route extends to Sistelo, in the municipality of Arcos de Valdevez — a village classified as a Cultural Landscape and National Monument — where a more rustic and ancestral expression of Vinho Verde persists, traditionally produced for domestic use and deeply woven into local ways of life.
The day finds its continuity in a visit to a longstanding wine estate, where a guided tasting offers insight into the more refined expressions of Vinho Verde, accompanied by carefully selected local products.
