Description of Experience
Wine, landscape and cultural memory in the Lima Valley
In the vineyard, each tasting of Loureiro is a reading of the landscape and the memory that shapes this Atlantic valley.
The Lima sub-region is one of the nine that shape the Vinho Verde Region, distinguished by its Atlantic lushness and by the deep-rooted relationship between wine, agriculture and traditional ways of life. In this valley, the Loureiro grape thrives under particularly favourable conditions. Ponte de Lima — one of Portugal’s oldest towns — emerges as a historic riverside centre, marked by a rich cultural heritage and a long-standing wine tradition, visible in its many historic estates.
The journey then leads to Sistelo, a village classified as a National Monument and emblematic of rural Alto Minho. Here, participants taste a rustic, ancestral expression of Vinho Verde, traditionally produced for local consumption, accompanied by cornbread, the region’s emblematic bread.
Along the way, time is also given to a regional lunch and to a visit to the Aphros Wine project at Quinta do Casal do Paço. Recognised by Jonathan Nossiter as a major reference in contemporary European wine, this sustainable project offers a refined interpretation of Loureiro and of the territory that sustains it.
Throughout the day, participants experience not just wine, but the rhythms, gestures, and stories of the Lima Valley, creating a profound connection with both the landscape and the people who inhabit it.
A small-scale cultural and sensory journey, where Loureiro, the landscape, and local traditions are read together, moving through the rhythms, gestures, and memories of the Lima Valley.
