Wine, landscape and cultural memory in the Lima Valley
A small-scale cultural and sensory journey, where Loureiro, the landscape, and local traditions are read together, moving through the rhythms, gestures, and memories of the Lima Valley.
◆ The Lima sub-region is one of the nine that make up the Vinho Verde region, distinguished by its Atlantic exuberant landscape and by the deep relationship between wine, agriculture and traditional ways of life.
◆ In this valley, the white grape variety Loureiro finds singular conditions to thrive. Ponte de Limaa historic riverside town and one of the oldest in Portugal, concentrates a remarkable cultural heritage and a significant number of wine estates, many of them of centuries-old origin.
◆ The experience extends to Sistelo, a village classified as a National Monument and a symbol of the rural Alto Minho. Here one encounters a more rustic and ancestral expression of Vinho Verde, traditionally produced by farmers for their own consumption, tasted alongside broa de milho, the region’s emblematic maize bread.
◆ The day also includes a traditional regional lunch and a visit to a leading producer in the region, offering contact with the contemporary and refined expression of Vinho Verde wines — particularly the Loureiro variety, the most emblematic of the Lima Valley.
In the vineyard, each tasting of Loureiro is a reading of the landscape and the memory that shapes this Atlantic valley.
