Pequenos Rebentos is a name created by Márcio Lopes, a curious and talented winemaker. A "researcher and an experimentalist", says Nuno Guedes Vaz Pires from Revista de Vinhos. "One of Portugal's most brilliant wine creators," says Fernando Melo from Evasões magazine. A careful minimalist approach "where the character of the place is expressed in wines of enormous purity", says Luís Lopes, director of Grandes Escolhas.
With this business card we have little more to say. Márcio Lopes makes wines in regions steeped in symbolism and deep-rooted tradition: the Douro, Monção and Melgaço and Ribeira Sacra, in neighbouring Galicia.
In Monção and Melgaço, which is the territory that interests us here, he works with carefully selected winegrowers who demonstrate sustainable agriculture and who show a passionate connection with the land and vines they cultivate. Then, in the winery, Márcio Lopes plays his meticulous and imaginative role, trying to work with indigenous yeasts and minimising the addition of sulphur dioxide.
And so, with these ingredients and this philosophy, in this distinctive region where he believes some of the best wines in the world can be made, his creations are born, distributed in three types of editions: classic, limited and with bubbles.
A wine maker you should know. Imperatively.
