Dona Paterna | Monção e Melgaço

The Dona Paterna brand, created in 1990,  is intertwined with the entrepreneurial nature of Carlos Codesso, one of the pioneers in planting continuous vineyards of the Alvarinho variety in Melgaço.
The name is intrinsically associated with Quinta da Carvalheira, located in the parish of Paderne, with a privileged view of the Minho River Valley.

Nearby is a very old monastery, which is a national monument.  It is said to have been founded by Mrs Paterna in the 10th century, married to Hermenegildo, governor of Tui (Galicia).  And as you may have realised, that's where this wine brand got the inspiration for its name.

The wines are produced in an area of 17.5 hectares,  on granite soils, on gentle slopes and half-slopes, facing south, so that the vines can make the most of the sun's exposure.
And so, in this context, combined with the climatic characteristics of the region (high rainfall, atmospheric humidity, mild temperatures and small temperature variations), D. Paterna products were born, which are divided into three variants: wines, brandies and sparkling wines.
A place to visit, an experienced and passionate producer who is worth getting to know.
