On this bright morning, we set off from the Aveleira chapel, crossed the River Vez to the Furado branda, already in Sistelo territory, and climbed up to the observation point of part of the Serra da Peneda Glacier Valley *.
Then we continued slowly up the curvy mountain path, immersed in the silence and the breathtaking beauty of the landscape, until we stopped to comfort our stomachs. We took our time, sitting on a rock, while our gaze roamed freely over the vast horizon. We were even able to take a delicious nap in the warm sunshine that day.
We return to the trail, pass through a small meadow, a cool forest, herds of cattle, wild horses and enter the return route.
Out there, one foot after the other on the uneven stones, we watched the wide Minho Valley, the distant Galician lands, the rocky massifs of peculiar shapes and the steep slopes of the Vez, gaining fury and vertigo there. We then cross the Furado meadow and return to the starting point. A hiking experience bordering on pure amazement.
* "This was the site of an ancient glacier, extinct for thousands of years, which was formed by huge masses of ice that moved slowly by gravity, moulding the surface of the mountain and forming the characteristic U-shaped valleys." https://trilhos.arcosdevaldevez.pt/activities/trilho-do-glaciar-e-alto-vez/
