What we propose with this text is an invitation. An invitation to slow down and walk, with care and presence, along old paths that still bear the marks of rural life. This is an immersive itinerary, lasting around three hours, followed at a gentle pace, uncovering ruins, architectural details and fragments of memory that reveal a history shaped by hard work, adaptation and ingenuity.

Maize, once a central element of local diet and economy, emerges as a guiding thread throughout this journey, recalling ancestral farming practices and cycles of subsistence deeply rooted in the land. Alongside it stands the tenacity of the communities who, generation after generation, shaped this extraordinary landscape of terraced fields, transforming steep slopes into a productive system of remarkable beauty and balance.

The route also recalls the figure of the Viscount of Sistelo, responsible for the construction of the imposing manor house that still defines the village’s profile, as well as other significant heritage elements whose thoughtful placement adds character, singularity and charm to the settlement.
Between casual conversations and shared silences, the walk becomes a true sensory balm. The diversity and richness of nature — the deep green of the terraces, the sound of flowing water, the light sculpting the landscape — envelop the visitor and invite contemplation.

This is one of the routes that We Want Green dedicates to the Cultural Landscape of Sistelo: an experience that goes beyond observation, proposing instead to feel, understand and inhabit a territory where culture, nature and time move together.
