Highlands | Peneda Gerês National Park (Hinterland)

From the Minho River Valley, Monção or Melgaço, to the Peneda Gerês National Park, the distance is less than nothing, such is the splendour of the landscape along the way. And that's why it's important to stop and contemplate the  villages of the Moorish Valley. It's inexcusable not to.

The entrance to the National Park is at Lamas de Mouro, one of the official gates and a truly magnificent place, as inspiring as it is calming. From there we head to the brandas of Aveleira and Santo António, whose ancestral buildings take us back to a time when transhumance was a structural practice of life in these parts. They are located on the edge of the park and the journey there will leave your heart pounding and your spirit levitating.

From there, we'll head back along the same road to Castro Laboreiro, an ancient village steeped in history and cultural particularities.
When we get there, it's time to stop for lunch, either in a restaurant or to enjoy a picnic lunch. It's up to everyone.

After that, you have to glide in slow motion through the majesty of the mountains, sculpted with magnificence for eternity, visit the most important sites and explore some local curiosities and traditions.
Later we will return to Lamas de Mouro and head towards the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Peneda, built in a setting of rare beauty.

And once the walk is over, we'll return to the starting point, absorbed by the shades of the landscape exposed to the late afternoon light.
