Located in Moreira, Monção, Quinta da Torre - formerly Paço/Quinta da Bemposta - is a property firmly rooted in history, which has oscillated between glory and decline, only to be reborn in full splendour in very recent times. By the hand and vision of one of the country's most dynamic and innovative winemakers and producers: Anselmo Mendes, a native of Monção who breathes and exudes the region like few others.
Quinta da Torre consists of 50 hectares of vineyards and a magnificent four-century manor house with three towers. In medieval times, the winery produced wines destined for England and Northern Europe, a venerable tradition that we intend to honour and expand. Today it's time for Alvarinho, the emblematic white grape variety which finds in the territory of Monção and Melgaço the perfect ecosystem to express its full versatility and complexity. The mountains that protect it from ocean winds, the geology, texture and structure of the soils and the human factor, the indispensable cultural layer, all contribute to this. These elements come together in an exquisite way to make the final result great.
The property is open to visitors, to wine tourism. And that can mean time well spent discovering a house over 600 years old, located in a magnificent setting, full of 16th century granaries and millenary olive trees, which alone would be enough to motivate a trip. But then there are the wines and local products to discover and savour and the Alvarinho Experience Centre to explore, all on the site of the ancient and mythical winery.
